Broadcast Format of RANET Changed

RANET will no longer broadcast content (Payloads) on GEONETCast in ZIP format.  All files will be broadcast as 'flat files'.  The naming convention remains the same, although "ranet_" will be added to the beginning of each file name.  Without the ZIP file format, Payloads will no longer be extracted to directories corresponding to the Content Stream ID.  All files will be downloaded into the main RANET directory.

Online Training Seminar

RANET will be holding an online training seminar on the GEONETCast Broadcast Manager, as well as the Content Viewer.   Registration is at:  https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/830651096

Content Viewer Beta Available

The RANET GEONETCast Broadcast can be viewed in flat HTML file format, however, RANET has created a content viewer to help manage data, as well as promote a more interactive experience.  The Viewer allows users to 'subscribe' to content, set notifications when new content is downloaded from the satellite, as well perform keyword and other meta data searches.  The Viewer is currently broadcast over GEONETCast on the RANET sub-channel.  Users can also be provided a copy by contacting geonetcast@ranet.ws.

Broadcast Manager Open

RANET has successfully completed and tested the broadcast manager.  The 64kbps broadcast is now available on GEONETCast Americas, and RANET hopes to begin broadcasting on GEONETCast in Africa in 2010.

RANET GEONETCast Broadcast Manager - Beta 1 Available

The primary goal of RANET is to improve rural and remote community access to weather, climate, and related information. When the program first began, it soon utilized and managed a data channel on WorldSpace AfriStar and AsiaStar satellites. This proved to be an invaluable tool, as it allowed RANET and its partnering meteorological services to broadcast content to remote locations at a minimal cost.
